Former NBA guard Mario Chalmers said Cleveland Cavaliers fans threw batteries at LeBron James in The King’s first game back in Cleveland with the Miami Heat on December 2, 2010.
Chalmers also revealed that one Cavaliers fan tried to grab an officer’s gun.
“I always take it back to that first game in Cleveland, Bron’s first game,” Chalmers said on The Big Podcast. “I’ve never seen fans that mad at a person, like from people trying to throw batteries on the court, we had somebody try to grab an officer’s gun. Like it was just crazy stuff like that.
“And it was just like, you guys are really that mad that he left Cleveland to come to Miami? Like I’m confused. How can you be that mad?”
LeBron left the Cavaliers for the Heat in the summer of 2010. He announced his move through “The Decision.” Fans and pundits brutally ripped the NBA legend for “The Decision.”
Cavaliers fans burned their LeBron jerseys after “The Decision” show finished. Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert also wrote a nasty public letter to LeBron, saying the Cavaliers would win a championship before LBJ did.
LeBron torched the Cavaliers on December 2, 2010. He put up 38 points, five rebounds and eight assists while shooting 15-of-25 from the field, 2-of-7 from beyond the arc and 6-of-9 from the free-throw line in the Heat’s 118-90 win.
LeBron won two MVPs, two titles and two Finals MVPs with the Heat.
In the summer of 2014, LeBron returned to the Cavaliers as a free agent to play with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. Cleveland reached four consecutive NBA Finals from 2014-18, losing three times and winning once in LeBron’s second stint with his hometown team.
The 2015-16 Cavaliers became the first team in NBA history to erase a 3-1 series deficit in the Finals. LeBron and Co. beat the 73-9 Golden State Warriors in seven games, with LeBron winning Finals MVP.
