Mark Cuban, Jason Kidd will fly to Slovenia next week to offer Luka Doncic $207 million extension

Luka Doncic is about to get paid.

According to Callie Caplan of The Dallas Morning News, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, head coach Jason Kidd, general manager Nico Harrison and front office advisor Dirk Nowitzki will fly to Doncic's hometown of Ljubljana, Slovenia, to offer the superstar a five-year, $207 million max extension.

It's the same deal Trae Young signed with the Atlanta Hawks last week after an impressive 2020-21 season.

The news comes after Doncic led Slovenia to the bronze medal match at this summer's Tokyo Olympics against Australia.

Doncic's extension with the Mavericks would take effect during the 2022-23 season and would keep him under contract through the summer of 2027.

The two-time All-Star has emerged as one of the NBA's top players after just three seasons. During the 2020-21 campaign, he averaged 27.7 points, eight rebounds and 8.6 assists per game while shooting 47.9% from the field and 35% from deep.

With Doncic expected to sign soon, the Mavericks can now set their sights on upgrades elsewhere. Dallas is reportedly interested in Chicago Bulls forward Lauri Markkanen as well as Dennis Smith Jr., who spent the 2020-21 campaign split between the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons.
