After a trade fell through earlier this year involving Detroit and Bol Bol, Pistons fans are a little gun shy when it comes to celebrating transactions. However, according to Pistons Public Relations, Marvin Bagley III is now officially a Piston. The entire release outlining the trade details is below.
The Detroit Pistons announced today the completion of a trade in which the club acquired forward Marvin Bagley III from the Sacramento Kings in exchange for forwards Josh Jackson and Trey Lyles and draft considerations. The trade was made as part of a four-team deal also involving the L.A. Clippers and Milwaukee Bucks.
Bagley, 6-11, 235, has spent the last three-plus seasons with the Kings after he was drafted second overall in the 2018 NBA Draft. He tallied clips of 9.3 points and 7.2 rebounds in 21.9 minutes over 30 games (17 starts) in 2021-22. Bagley has shot .463 from the field this season and totaled four double-doubles, including season highs of 26 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Houston on Jan. 14.
A native of Tempe, Ariz., Bagley earned NBA All-Rookie First Team honors after finishing his rookie campaign with averages of 14.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 blocks in 25.3 minutes through 62 games (four starts). Bagley holds career NBA averages of 13.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 0.7 blocks in 24.8 minutes over 148 games (69 starts) all with Sacramento.
The former Duke Blue Devil was named ACC Player of the Year, ACC Rookie of the Year and a consensus All-America First Team selection after recording 21.0 points and 11.1 rebounds per game in his lone season at Duke in 2017-18.
Jackson, 6-8, 207, averaged 10.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 22.4 minutes over 101 games (28 starts) for the Pistons from 2020-22. A four-year NBA veteran, Jackson holds career marks of 11.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 279 games (92 starts) with Phoenix, Memphis and Detroit.
Lyles, 6-9, 234, tallied 10.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 19.4 minutes through 51 games (three starts) with the Pistons in 2021-22. He has posted averages of 7.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 425 games (106 starts) over six-plus seasons with Utah, Denver, San Antonio and Detroit.
