Mavericks hire Hall of Famer Jason Kidd as new head coach

The last time Jason Kidd was a member of the Dallas Mavericks organization, he helped the team win its first and only NBA title as a player in 2011. Now he's back in Dallas, hoping to lead the franchise to its next championship.

According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, the Mavericks have an agreement to hire Kidd as their new head coach.

Kidd entered coaching in 2013, compiling a 183-190 record with the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks before joining the Lakers as an assistant in 2019.

The 48-year-old replaces Rick Carlisle, who left the organization earlier this month to once again become head coach of the Indiana Pacers. Carlisle endorsed Kidd as a solid candidate to replace him, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon.

Harrison, meanwhile, is expected to work alongside Michael Finley, Dirk Nowitzki and Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
