Mavericks interested in signing 20 ppg scorer to pair with Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving

The Dallas Mavericks have been busy this offseason retooling their roster, including re-signing Kyrie Irving, signing Seth Curry, landing Grant Williams in a sign-and-trade with the Boston Celtics and much more.

Despite these moves, the team remains active in free agency as they eye a possible addition at the forward position. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, The Mavericks have expressed "exploratory interest" in several free agent forwards, including Kelly Oubre Jr. and Derrick Jones Jr.

Oubre, 27, is the biggest draw here by a wide margin. Coming off one of the quieter 20-plus ppg scoring campaigns in recent memory, the former first-round pick notched new career highs in points (20.2) and minutes (32.2) per game with the Charlotte Hornets this past season.

While far from a lock-down defender and certainly not the most efficient shooter on the market (a career 43.4% shooter from the field), Oubre is one of the more tantalizing scorers from a desolate free agency pool.

Should Oubre land in Dallas, he'd factor into a wing rotation that consists of veteran Tim Hardaway Jr. and promising fourth-year pro Josh Green.

At the power forward position, the aforementioned Grant Williams is expected to slide into the starting gig this season. While he's averaged only 6.2 ppg throughout his career, his numbers were hampered by Boston's depth in the frontcourt, namely the presence of Al Horford and Robert Williams. Still, he proved to be a sniper from beyond the arc, knocking down 40.3% of his threes over the past two seasons.
