Following a disappointing loss to a Joel Embiid-less Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Dallas Mavericks are converting two-way contract player A.J. Lawson to a standard NBA contract, which will make him eligible to be with the team for the postseason.
“The Dallas Mavericks are converting two-way guard AJ Lawson to a standard NBA contract, Elias Sbiet of [Tandem] tells ESPN,” Wojnarowski wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Lawson — who’s played 28 games with Mavericks — is averaging 20.7 points with Texas Legends of G League.”
In Lawson’s 28 games with the Mavs, he’s averaged 3.8 points in 8.3 minutes while shooting 47.1 percent from the field. Converting the 23 year old to a standard contract was a sensible move, as it could pay dividends for the Mavs later on if he continues to develop while being on a team-friendly deal.
