The Mavericks are receiving calls on forward Dorian Finney-Smith, per Shams Charania of The Athletic, with the Jazz being a team that is “expressing strong interest.”
But it appears Finney-Smith would not come cheaply.
Charania cited opposing executives in writing that Dallas has set “an incredibly high price threshold for teams reaching out about Finney-Smith.”
Finney-Smith, 29, could be the main chip if the Mavs are to pull off a deal to land an All-Star type of player ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline, Charania added.
The Knicks and Heat are others who are believed to have an interest, sources told Hoops Wire.
Finney-Smith is 6-foot-7 and averaging 8.9 points and 4.5 rebounds in 37 games, shooting 41 percent from the field and 35 percent on 3-pointers. He signed a four-year contract extension worth $55 million last season. The deal includes a player option in 2025-26.
“In seven seasons with the Mavericks, Finney-Smith has established himself as a critical two-way wing, well-liked teammate and important for the team’s culture, including being a favorite of MVP candidate Luka Doncic,” Charania wrote.
Meanwhile, the Jazz reportedly have been aggressive heading into the trade deadline, with an eye on another forward. The Hawks’ John Collins has been on their radar for some time, Charania added.
