The Mavericks intend to sign guard/forward Justin Holiday once he is eligible for free agency, expected to happen soon, per Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

Holiday was traded from the Hawks to the Rockets, along with center Frank Kaminsky, before the deadline. He is currently working on a contract buyout with the Rockets, per Windhorst.

Holiday, 33, is among the NBA’s most well-traveled players, as he has already appeared in games with nine different teams. Along with the Hawks, he has also spent time with the Kings, pacers, Grizzlies, Bulls, Knicks, Warriors and 76ers. He has served two stints with each the Hawks and Bulls, too.

Holiday, of course, is the brother of Bucks guard Jrue Holiday and Hawks point guard Aaron Holiday.

In 28 games this season, he is averaging 4.5 points and shooting 35 percent on 3-pointers. Still, he’s the type of veteran perimeter player the Mavs have been seeking — as they previously had been linked to Magic buyout guard/forward Terrence Ross.

As we relayed here, Ross will instead be heading to the Suns.
