On Sunday afternoon, the Miami Heat will host Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics in Florida.
Before the game (on Friday), Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald reported that the Heat would likely waive two-way player R.J. Hampton.
Shortly after Chiang's report, Ira Winderman of The Sun Sentinel reported that the Heat would indeed be waiving Hampton.
Via Winderman: "With the deadline next month for signing two-way players, the Heat are waiving RJ Hampton, opening a two-way roster spot on a roster that also has a vacant standard roster spot. Hampton has been uneven in his recent G League minutes."
Hampton had been in his first season with Miami and averaged 1.3 points and 1.0 assists per contest in eight games.
Over seven G League regular season games, he averaged 11.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 45.9% from the field and 26.1% from the three-point range.
Hampton was the 24th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and has also spent time with the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons over his four seasons in the league.
He just turned 23 earlier this month, so there he could draw interest from other teams.
As for the Heat, they are the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference with a 28-24 record in 52 games.
They are in the middle of a two-game winning streak and are 4-6 over their last ten games.
Following the Celtics, the Heat will visit the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday.
