Cameron Payne had been an excellent role player for the Phoenix Suns over the previous four seasons.

This past year, the 29-year-old point guard averaged 10.3 points, 2.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per contest while shooting 41.5% from the field and 36.8% from the three-point range in 48 regular season games (he also appeared in seven NBA playoff games).

However, the Suns traded Payne to the San Antonio Spurs (who waived him) over the offseason.

On Monday, the Milwaukee Bucks officially announced that they had signed Payne.

Via The Bucks: "The Milwaukee Bucks have signed guard Cameron Payne."

The Bucks recently acquired seven-time NBA All-Star Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers, so Payne will likely be Lillard's backup and run the offense for the second unit.

Payne was initially the 14th pick in the 2015 NBA Draft out of Murray State.

In addition to the Suns, he has also played for the Chicago Bulls, Oklahoma city Thunder and Cleveland Cavaliers over eight seasons.

His career averages are 8.0 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per contest while shooting 42.0% from the field and 36.3% from the three-point range in 327 regular season games.

He has also appeared in 53 NBA playoff games, and helped the Suns make the NBA Finals in 2021 (they lost to the Bucks in six games).

Meanwhile, the Bucks are coming off another stellar regular season where they were the first seed in the Eastern Conference with a 58-24 record.

However, they lost to the Miami Heat in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
