NBA exec weighs in on Zion Williamson: 'Complete garbage'

Throughout the 2022-23 NBA season, Zion Williamson found his name in multiple rumors. From reports of having issues with his teammates to questions being raised about his work ethic, Williamson had it coming from all angles.

In part, the rumors are likely born out of curiosity; after all, this is the same Williamson who seemingly can't stay healthy.

However, according to an anonymous New Orleans Pelicans executive who spoke with Spotrac's Keith Smith, the rumors surrounding Williamson's relationship with teammates and his work ethic are "complete garbage."

“Let me start with saying all the noise about Zion (Williamson) not working, not liking his teammates and wanting out, it’s all nonsense," The executive told Smith. "Complete garbage. Zion knows he’s made some mistakes. What 20- and 21-year-old hasn’t? But he’s a hard worker and he gets along with his teammates. It’s painful to read some of this made-up stuff that’s out there.”

Unfortunately, until Williamson can prove he's capable of playing a full NBA season, the rumors will continue to swirl. It's hard to believe a player who is happy in his surroundings would be so nonchalant with his approach to the game.

If Williamson truly wants to break free of the negative rumors being thrown his way, he needs to earn his reprieve on the court. Only once we begin to see that player that shone as a high school phenom and dominated at Duke University will our perception of Williamson begin to change for the better.

Williamson missed the majority of last season with an injury and has endured a difficult start to the offseason due to very public personal reasons.

Yet, the upcoming season is Williamson's opportunity to prove all the doubters wrong and change the narrative surrounding his professionalism once and for all.
