NBA insider reveals Heat will go star-hunting in summer

After striking out on a Damian Lillard trade last summer, the Miami Heat will reportedly go chasing for another star player in this year's offseason.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Heat will have many more players to trade for instead of putting all their eggs in one basket, like they did a year ago with Lillard.

"It's going to be a different summer in the NBA," Woj said on "NBA Countdown" on ESPN. "There will be a lot of guys entering the NBA portal, and there's going to be a lot of player movement this summer. Part of it is teams underachieving, but it's also part of the new salary cap and payrolls have to change."

Woj added that Miami is "in a great position" to use some of its assets — such as rookie sensation Jaime Jaquez Jr., Tyler Herro and Terry Rozier — to swing for a big trade.

"It's always an advantage for Miami because players want to be part of that organization," Woj said. "I think Miami will be in a position to use their assets and get an All-Star level player that connects more on the timeline of Bam Adebayo and his age."

Per several reports, All-Stars Trae Young and Donovan Mitchell will likely become available via trade this offseason. Mitchell, especially, has been earmarked to leave Cleveland as a free agent in 2025 and could press the Cavs front office into trading him beforehand to avoid risking losing him for nothing.

While the Heat are likely to upgrade their roster over the summer, they have a first-round matchup against the Celtics to worry about first. The rematch of last year's Eastern Conference Finals commences with Game 1 in Boston at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday. The Heat are expected to be without Jimmy Butler for at least two weeks due to an MCL injury. The series could well be over before his return.
