It’s no secret that the Sacramento Kings have a lot of work to do before they are ready for the playoffs again.
But they made the first of possibly many moves this weekend when they hired Mike Brown as their new head coach.
Brown has worked for multiple teams in the league, including stints leading the Los Angeles Lakers and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
While in Cleveland, his Cavs went all the way to the Finals but didn’t win it all.
Brown has also been an assistant coach for multiple teams, including the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors, and also led the Nigerian men’s basketball team in the Olympics.
Marc Spears thinks Brown’s hiring is a great choice.
Spears notes that Brown will bring structure to the Kings’ organization and is also respected by many players for his time coaching under Steve Kerr.
Calling it a great “foundation move”, Spears thinks Brown has the potential to turn things around for Sacramento.
It won’t be easy.
Stuck Sacramento
It’s been years since the Kings have even reached the playoffs.
They last appeared in the postseason in 2006, back when some of the team’s current players were still in diapers.
The problems with the team are many and it has undergone numerous changes, both in the front office and on the floor.
Sacramento definitely does need structure and consistency, something Brown hopes to bring.
There are some promising players on the Kings’ roster so Brown has the chance to make this team a contender.
He signed a four-year deal so Sacramento’s front office seems confident in him.
But time will tell if Brown has what it takes or if the team will chew him up and spit him out like it has for so many others.
