After a lackluster start to his debut season, rookie David Roddy has given especially valuable minutes to the Memphis Grizzlies in his last handful of games.

Drafted 23rd overall in the 2022 NBA Draft, Roddy was set to be an immediate contributor for Grizzlies. The 21-year-old was the premier ball-handler and scorer for a good Colorado State team, and was subsequently drafted slightly higher than anticipated because of it.

In his last four games, Roddy has averaged 10.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals. He’s shot just a hair under 44 percent from field, and while his 3-point shooting percentage hasn’t been pretty, there’s reason to believe it will continue getting better as his career progresses.

In his last season with CSU, Roddy shot a stunning 57 percent from the floor and 44 percent from beyond the arc on 3.4 attempts per game.

He’s been fine for a competitive Grizzlies team looking to make a splash in the playoffs, but despite being selected in the first round, he’ll require a bit more patience moving forward.

Roddy’s talents were on full display against the Bucks on Dec. 12, when he poured on 15 points on 7-for-13 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds and dished two assists.

A 6-foot-5 forward-hybrid, Roddy’s a bit of an odd case. But in a Grizzlies system that has now developed a superstar and several other star-type players, he’ll be a player that could pay dividends down the road.
