The Boston Celtics have been linked with a lot of big men in recent memory. While they have solid players like Tristan Thompson and Daniel Theis, they could use a big man with size, who can protect the paint and matchup against somebody like Joel Embiid in the playoffs.

There is no wonder that the Boston Celtics have been linked to Andre Drummond before, as well as Nikola Vucevic and Jerami Grant more recently. While those are the big names on the market, an underrated target for the Boston Celtics could be someone that is currently flying under the radar. That player could be Hassan Whiteside of the Sacramento Kings. Here is the potential trade package:

Boston Celtics Receive: Hassan Whiteside

Sacramento Kings Receive: Jeff Teague, two future second-round picks

With this trade, the Sacramento Kings would receive a solid return for a player that they signed, but ended up playing less than 15 minutes a game. The Sacramento Kings are also 15-23, and 13th in the Western Conference, so that lessens their need for veterans even further, as they have a long way to go before competing. Perhaps trading Hassan Whiteside would be the right move for them, especially if it means that they can get some value in return, as Hassan Whiteside is a prominent name despite his underwhelming season this year.

The Boston Celtics wouldn’t have to give up much for a big man with a lot of potential upside for their roster. Hassan Whiteside is a true big man and an elite rebounder. There are currently no Boston Celtics centers that are averaging double digits in rebounds, and he can shore up their need for size on the roster. Last season with the Portland Trail Blazers, Hassan Whiteside averaged 15.5 PPG and 13.5 RPG, as well as leading the league with his 2.9 BPG. While he wouldn’t have as big of a role on the Boston Celtics as he did that year in Portland, he is still a valuable player to have on the roster.

The Boston Celtics are currently 20-18, and 5th in the Western Conference. For a low amount of assets, they can add an easy upgrade to their roster, and increase their odds of winning the championship. With GM Danny Ainge being known for always making savvy moves, this seems like a good avenue to explore. Hassan Whiteside would be able to protect the rim well on defense, and with talented playmakers like Marcus Smart, he could also thrive on the offensive end, getting easy dunks and finishing inside.

Essentially, Hassan Whiteside would be an elite fit on the Boston Celtics and would provide a great option for short-term contention. They could even re-sign him in free agency if he does well in his role. This move seems like a win-win for the Sacramento Kings and the Boston Celtics. While there’s nothing concrete that has been reported, this seems like a solid trade overall.
