Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks were eliminated in the first round in 7 games, but it was clear from the series that the offensive load on Doncic was far too great,  and that the team needs to get some players that can take on some of the playmaking and the scoring that Doncic has to do.

Adding a second ballhandler who can run an offense while Luka Doncic isn't on the court should be a priority for the team. A recent report by Brian Windhorst of ESPN has stated that the Dallas Mavericks could go after Mike Conley or Kyle Lowry, both of whom are stellar veteran point guards.

Namely, these conversations have so far revolved around Kyle Lowry, Mike Conley and Paul himself if he opts out of his contract with the Suns. According to sources, the Mavericks, looking to ease the burden on Luka Doncic, have shown interest in both Conley and Lowry, the latter of whom stands to have his pick of money and championship contender -- and potentially both.

Both Mike Conley and Kyle Lowry have had experience playing next to high usage superstars like Luka Doncic, so one can see how they would fit on the Dallas Mavericks. Kyle Lowry brings his on-court production, but also his intangibles such as championship experience and veteran leadership. Mike Conley made his first All-Star appearance this season and has become a stellar shooter this season, shooting 41.2% from beyond the arc.

While it is unlikely that the Dallas Mavericks instantly become championship contenders by moving for Lowry or Conley, acquiring either point guard would be a good step towards that goal. It is clear that Luka Doncic can dominate defenses, but no player wins on their own. Hopefully, the Mavericks are able to find him some offensive help for next season, and make it out of the first round of the playoffs.
