Nets forward Kevin Durant has an MCL sprain in his right knee and will be re-evaluated in two weeks, the team announced in a press release.
Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, there’s “optimism” that Durant will miss less than the six weeks he was out last season, creating a “significant sigh of relief” within the organization.
Durant suffered the injury in Sunday’s win over the Heat after Miami guard/forward Jimmy Butler landed on his knee, forcing Durant to exit in the third quarter.
Just before falling into Durant, Butler had his shot blocked by Nets guard Ben Simmons. Durant was on the court for two more possessions before going back to the locker room.
Durant, 34, is averaging 30.0 points on 56 percent shooting, along with 6.8 rebounds and a league-best 94 percent on free throws.
The Nets entered the night as one of the NBA’s hottest teams, having won 21 of 25 through Sunday.
