Free agent forward Trendon Watford has signed a contract with the Nets, the team announced. Terms of the deal were not released but Hoops Wire has learned the deal is non-guaranteed.

Before being waived this offseason, Watford played two productive seasons for the Trail Blazers, averaging 7.5 points (54.7% FG, 33.3% 3-point FG), 1.9 assists, and 4.0 rebounds in 18.6 minutes per game.

Watford went undrafted after playing two seasons for LSU, but showed great promise due to his strong build and impressive athleticism. At 240 pounds, Watford has showcased versatility on both ends of the court, while he is most known for his elite interior finishing off the dribble.

ESPN’s Zach Lowe wrote in a past column: “Portland has something in Watford. He’s providing steady work at PF and as a very undersized center. Watford reads the game and moves his feet well enough to switch some on defense. He fights on the glass. He has gorgeous touch on floaters. “

The 6-foot-8 power forward looks to play a complementary role off the bench, giving more depth to the Nets’ frontcourt. Along with that, the 22-year-old has a great opportunity to earn his way by contributing great numbers on a Nets team that will rely on his ability to score the ball.
