The Brooklyn Nets intend to promote lead assistant Kevin Ollie to interim coach, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

Ollie, 51, will replace Jacque Vaughn, fired on Monday. Ollie was in his first year as Vaughn’s assistant. Before that, he was director of operations with top-flight amateur league Overtime Elite.

Of course, Ollie is most noted for his time coaching the University of Connecticut and winning an NCAA championship in 2014. He was head coach at UConn from 2012-18, serving as an assistant under then-Huskies head coach Jim Calhoun from 2010-12.

He finished 127-79 in his six seasons at UConn.

Before that, Ollie was a journeyman point guard in the NBA, playing for 12 teams from 1997-2010. That included three stints with the Philadelphia 76ers and two with the Orlando Magic.

Ollie is actively involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a father to two children.

Brooklyn (21-33) has lost six of 10 and is in danger of missing the play-in tournament, sitting in 11th in the Eastern Conference.
