Nets turned down Kevin Durant trade offer from Celtics centered around Jaylen Brown

There is a new team potentially emerging as a contender to acquire 12-time All-Star Kevin Durant, and it's one of the Brooklyn Nets biggest rivals.

According to multiple reports, the Boston Celtics have been involved in trade talks with Brooklyn surrounding Durant and recently offered a package centered around 25-year-old star Jaylen Brown. Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Nets turned down the Celtics' offer of Brown, guard Derrick White and a draft pick.

According to Charania, Brooklyn made a counteroffer, looking to land Brown, Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart, draft picks and "potentially one more rotation player."

"The Celtics are currently less inclined to include Smart along with multiple player or pick assets, but are mulling over the next step in trade talks," Charania wrote. "Boston, fresh off a trip to the NBA Finals, is currently led by a pair of star two-way wings in Jayson Tatum and Brown. But the Celtics have tremendous interest in Durant and view him as a piece that could take them over the final hurdle."

Per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Boston has been in "regular contact" with the Nets and while they consider Tatum off limits, they're able to offer a package possibly including Brown, as many as three unprotected first-round picks (2025, 2027, 2029) and two pick swaps (2024 and 2026). Brown has two years and $56 million left on his current contract.

Durant -- who requested a trade nearly one month -- has four years and $198 million left on his contract and will turn 34 in September.
