Nikola Jokic says he'll sign supermax deal with Nuggets

Denver Nuggets 2020-21 MVP, Nikola Jokic, will enter the final year of a five-year $147 million contract next season. According to the man himself, the Nuggets could be locking up the 2021-22 MVP candidate to an extension before next season tips off.

Jokic and the Nuggets were eliminated from the NBA playoffs earlier this week, losing to the Golden State Warriors in five games. After Denver's 102-98 loss to Golden State in Game 5, Jokic expressed his desire to sign a supermax deal with the team that drafted him.

"I would like it, of course," Jokic said, via ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk. "But it's not something that I'm deciding. I think if [the] offer is on the table, of course I'm going to accept it because I really like the organization. I really like the people who works here. I'm in [a] really good relationship with everybody from [the] owner to equipment manager."

According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Nuggets plan to offer Jokic a five-year supermax contract extension worth $254 million this offseason.

Jokic, a four-time All-Star, averaged 27.1 PPG, 13.8 rebounds and 7.9 assists in 74 regular-season games for the Nuggets this year. He averaged 31.0 PPG, 13.2 rebounds and 5.8 assists in five playoff games.
