Nuggets guard Will Barton out for 'foreseeable future' with hamstring strain
The Denver Nuggets can't seem to catch a break.
Starting guard Will Barton will be sidelined for the "foreseeable future," head coach Michael Malone announced Saturday, per ESPN. He suffered a right hamstring strain early in Friday night's 118-97 loss to the Golden State Warriors.
Barton pulled up awkwardly after driving to the basket, wincing as he passed the ball to a teammate.
Malone called the injury a "pretty significant hamstring strain" prior to Saturday's game against the Houston Rockets, ESPN adds.
Barton tweeted Saturday that he's expecting to return this season.
The 30-year-old has played a significant role in Denver's success this season, averaging 12.7 points, four rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 42.6% from the field and 38.1% from deep.
Barton's return will be crucial for the Nuggets, who are without Jamal Murray for the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL. Backup point guard Monte Morris also strained his hamstring earlier this week and has missed the past four games.
The Nuggets are fourth in the Western Conference with 12 games remaining in the regular season.
