Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray drives against the Los Angeles Lakers Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Nuggets' Jamal Murray laughs off chatter around Lakers drama

While the Denver Nuggets made waves on the hardwood during their incredible run to an NBA title last season, they also made some noise off the court. Following a sweep of the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals, there were a number of comments made pointing back to that series.

Specifically, one noteworthy moment came from Nuggets broadcaster Vic Lombardi, who called head coach Michael Malone the Lakers' "daddy" at the team's championship parade.

This sparked plenty of debate and of course, questions for Lakers players about the off-court drama. This has all built up to the start of the 2023-24 season which features the Nuggets and Lakers squaring off on Opening Night. And ahead of that matchup, Denver guard Jamal Murray was asked if he cared about Opening Night being against the Lakers and if he listens to any of the noise.

Murray laughed off the question, saying it's all for "you guys" while seemingly referencing the media and fans.

"No, that's all for you guys I just go play basketball and have fun," Murray told Nuggets analyst Katy Winge.

This comes just days after Lakers star LeBron James was asked about the topic, to which he responded that "there will be a time where everybody will get it."

While it seems the Lakers aren't quite ready to let bygones be bygones just yet, the chatter around the comments from the playoffs and postseason will only add to what should be an interesting opening night in a game played in Denver and televised on TNT.
