Patrick Ewing supports Tom Thibodeau as next Knicks coach

Tom Thibodeau appears to be the frontrunner in the New York Knicks' search for their next head coach and he has received an endorsement from one of the greatest players in the franchise history. Patrick Ewing voiced his support for Thibodeau as the next coach of the team.

"I think Tom's a great coach," Ewing said. "I had the opportunity to have him be on the staff when I played and also work with him. He's been around a lot of years. He knows the game in and out. He's going to do everything he needs to do in terms of having his team prepared to play every night. I think he'd be a great candidate for that job."

Ewing certainly has experience with Thibodeau's coaching, as he was the assistant to head coach Jeff Van Gundy for the Knicks from 1996-2003. Ewing was on the team for the first four years of Thibodeau's time with the team, and he seemed to be impressed with his abilities. Ewing is also no stranger to what it takes to be a coach, as he is currently the head coach at Georgetown, earning the Hoyas their first postseason invitation since 2015.

Thibodeau has not been in the NBA for over a year, as he was dismissed as head coach and president of operations by the Minnesota Timberwolves in early 2019. Mike Woodson and Kenny Atkinson are also considered leading candidates for the position, as the Knicks have reportedly been interviewing several potential coaches.
