The Pelicans have claimed forward Matt Ryan off waivers a few days after he was waived as a two-way player with the Timberwolves. The move became official via the NBA transactions log.

Ryan, 26, is 6-foot-7 and started last season with the Lakers, burying a game-winning shot, before being waived in December. He signed a two-way deal with the Timberwolves about a week later.

In 34 games overall, he averaged 3.6 points and shot 38 percent on 3-pointers. He also appeared in seven games with the G League’s Iowa Wolves, averaging 19.0 points.

Ryan has also spent time with the Celtics, appearing in one game in 2021-22. He played college ball at Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, and Chattanooga and hails from New Rochelle, N.Y.

The Timberwolves re-signed him to a two-way deal at the end of September — before, again, deciding to waive him over the weekend.

New Orleans now has Ryan, shooting guard Dereon Seabron and small forward Kaiser Gates filling its three two-way slots.
