Former Hornets coach James Borrego is joining the Pelicans with Willie Green as associate head coach, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Borrego coached the Hornets for four years, with their record improving by 10 games in each of the final three seasons. He was dismissed at the end of 2021-22.

During this offseason, he reportedly was a candidate for the Bucks and Rockets head-coaching vacancies. Those positions since have been filled.

Borrego, 45, compiled a 138-163 record with Charlotte overall. This marks his second stint as an assistant with the Pelicans. He also has been an assistant with the Magic and Spurs.

Green just completed his second season as coach of New Orleans, with a 78-86 overall record.
