The Pelicans are entering a pivotal offseason and they’re looking for established talent to elevate the team in the standings. One player they’re zeroing in on is Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry, league sources have told FortyEightMinutes.com.

New Orleans remains interested in Damian Lillard and should he become truly available, he’d be the priority. However, the most likely scenario is the Pelicans targeting Lowry, who is a free agent this summer.

Lowry was rumored to be on the move at last year’s trade deadline, though he ultimately remained with the Raptors. Toronto executing a sign-and-trade remains possible and for New Orleans, it may be their best route to acquiring the 35-year-old point guard.

The Pelicans view Lowry as someone who can help create a winning culture, per Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer. In Toronto, the point guard became a staple of the franchise, helping shape the team’s culture before winning a ring alongside Kawhi Leonard in 2018-19.

It was reported earlier this season that members of Zion Williamson‘s family were unhappy with the situation in New Orleans, which definitely cause concern within the Pelicans’ front office. After seeing Chris Paul and Anthony Davis ask out, the franchise likely had a touch of déjà vu as they became aware of the development.
