Quin Snyder puts first stamp on Hawks with Bogdanovic extension

The Hawks fired Nate McMillan at the All-Star break and brought in Quin Snyder as their new coach. Snyder told reporters he joined midseason in part to "build a foundation, a culture." Part of that involved evaluating the roster and deciding who he wants to build with.

It only took him eight games to decide that he wanted Bogdan Bogdanovic to be a part of his future in Atlanta. Bogdanovic has missed some games with knee issues, after having offseason surgery, but he's been the Hawks' best three-point shooter this season. And since Snyder took over, he's shot 45.7 percent from three-point range.

Bogdanovic signed a three-year deal with Atlanta in the summer of 2020 after leaving the Sacramento Kings. Now, he'll decline his $18 million player option next season for a four-year, $68 million deal that will keep him in a Hawks uniform through 2027.

Bogdanovic has played well under Snyder, but it could be that after three years with Bojan Bodganovic in Utah, he simply wants to have a sharp-shooting player named Bogdanovic on his roster at all times. For the record, Bojan and Bogdan are not related - they're not even from the same country. Atlanta's Bogdanovic was born in Serbia, while Detroit's Bogdanovic was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and competes internationally for Croatia.

We still don't know who else will be a part of the Hawks going forward, especially John Collins, the forward who is perpetually on the trade block. But at the very least, Quin Snyder wants to build around Bogdanovic.
