Quinn Cook agrees to non-guaranteed contract with Blazers?

The Portland Trail Blazers are adding depth to their backcourt as training camp approaches.

Free-agent veteran point guard Quinn Cook has agreed to a non-guaranteed deal with the Blazers, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

ESPN's Marc J. Spears previously reported Cook was expected to work out for the Golden State Warriors this week.

A two-time NBA champion, Cook has spent most of his time in the league with the Warriors, appearing in 107 games. He played 23 games last season for the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers and owns career averages of 6.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.

Portland needs depth at guard behind Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, as both carried the minutes for the franchise last season. Anfernee Simons is second on the depth chart, but he struggled during the 2020-21 campaign and didn't give the Blazers much confidence in him moving forward.

Beyond Simons, Portland has Dennis Smith Jr., Ben McLemore and Tony Snell at guard. Adding Cook to the mix should drive competition within the group.

In addition to the Warriors, Lakers and Cavaliers, Cook has also played for the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans. The 28-year-old played collegiately at Duke and made his NBA debut in 2017.
