Markquis Nowell's time with the Toronto Raptors has come to an end.
The 5-foot-7 point guard was waived Monday to make room for Mouhamadou Gueye on a two-way contract, the team announced. Nowell appeared in just one game for Toronto this season and spent much of the year in the G League where he battled a nagging hamstring injury this season.
Nowell played in 20 games for the Raptors 905 this season, averaging 15.3 points and 8.9 assists while shooting 42% from the floor and 38.5% from three-point range.
Gueye joins the Raptors on a two-way deal following a stint earlier this year on a 10-day contract. He takes up the final two-way spot alongside DJ Carton and Jontay Porter following Nowell's departure.
"Athletic wing. Four man that can cover multiple positions, very active hands, very live body, good rim protector, and somebody who really embraced our culture," Raptors coach Darko Rajaković said of Gueye. "He really improved as the season was progressing. So really exciting to have him with us and to continue his development."
Gueye appeared in 34 games for the 905 this season, averaging 14.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
His size should help Toronto while Scottie Barnes remains sidelined with a fracture in his left hand. He'll join the bench alongside fellow 905 standout Javon Freeman-Liberty who was recently promoted to a standard contract.
The Raptors still have one open roster spot to fill should they choose to this season. They'll likely sign someone to a 10-day contract as they had with Gueye and Carton earlier this year.
