Report: Brett Brown firing 'beginning of more changes' for 76ers
The Philadelphia 76ers fired coach Brett Brown after the team was swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs. But according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the team is not done making major moves to improve heading into next season.
"It's going to be the beginning of more changes in the organization," Woj said on "Get Up!"
Woj said that Brown would have liked to have had Ben Simmons available for the series, but even without him, a sweep was simply an unacceptable outcome for a team as talented for the 76ers. And while Woj believes that general manager Elton Brand is "safe," he still believes that big changes are on the way for Philadelphia.
"[Brand] is going to have the opportunity with senior leadership to make some more changes in the front office," Woj explained. "This is an organization that beyond head coach is gonna look into how they got to where they are."
The 76ers definitely could use some soul searching as they head into their offseason. They have two of the best young stars in the game with Embiid and Simmons but they have very little flexibility in terms of roster adjustments, as Tobias Harris and Al Horford are both locked into expensive long-term deals.
But the biggest question facing the 76ers is their next head coach and Woj says that Clippers assistant coach Ty Lue would be a leading candidate due to his "ability to coach star players and coach them hard." Before joining the Clippers, Lue was the coach of the Cavaliers during their finals win against the Golden State Warriors.
