NBA insider Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com believes the Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in trading for Brooklyn Nets forward Dorian Finney-Smith.

“Dorian Finney-Smith is somebody that I do believe that the Cavs have interest in,” Fedor said on the Wine and Gold Talk Podcast. “He is somebody who can play the three and the four, he can shoot well enough from the outside spacing the floor.”

The Nets acquired Finney-Smith from the Dallas Mavericks last season in the Kyrie Irving trade. According to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, rival executives expect the Nets to have a high asking price worth the equivalent of two first-round picks if they trade Finney-Smith.

A Florida product, Finney-Smith is averaging 9.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.5 blocks this season while shooting 43.2% from the field, 41.1% from beyond the arc and 80.0% from the free-throw line. He’s making $13.4 million this season and will make $14.4 million in 2024-25.

The Cavaliers and Nets are playing each other in Paris, so maybe the two front offices will talk about a Finney-Smith trade.

The 30-year-old Finney-Smith has career averages of 8.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.4 blocks with the Mavericks and Nets. He’s one of the top two-way players in the NBA.

The Cavaliers are in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings, while the Nets are in 10th place. Cleveland has no intention of trading All-Star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell. The front office wants to surround the New York native with more talent, which is why Finney-Smith is on their radar.
