Tomorrow will mark one month since the Cleveland Cavaliers announced that All-Star point guard Darius Garland would be out for an extended period of time due to a fractured jaw.

After Cleveland’s most recent contest this past Thursday, Cavaliers Head Coach J.B. Bickerstaff said that Garland would be out for “a few more games.”

Although the 23-year-old will not play in the Wine and Gold’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day matchup against the Chicago Bulls tomorrow night, a key step in his injury recovery will reportedly take place before the game.

According to Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor, Garland will have the wiring from his jaw surgery removed from his mouth tomorrow. Here is what Fedor had to say in a recent article:

“Sources say Garland is scheduled to have the wiring removed from his mouth on Monday -- ahead of Cleveland’s home game against the Chicago Bulls and exactly one month since the potentially season-altering announcement. If all goes well with his check-up, he will then return to basketball-related activities.”

Fedor also writes that Garland’s jaw procedure has prevented him from being able to work out, and limited him to a diet consisting solely of liquids.

Despite missing the player whom Bickerstaff has referred to as “the leader of this team” in their last 12 games, the Cavaliers are playing arguably their best basketball of the season. They have gone 9-3 in this span, and are currently tied for their longest winning of the season at four consecutive games.

With this latest news, Cleveland fans are hoping that Garland’s next check-up has a successful outcome, which would help him return to the floor for the Wine and Gold soon.
