ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski was joined by Bobby Marks on the "Woj Pod" and discussed the Dallas Mavericks who appear active on the trade market. Wojnarowski reported that the Mavericks have turned their attention to Washington following talks breaking down with the Wizards on Kyle Kuzma.
Wojnarowski "Dallas when they couldn't get the Wizards to do this (Kuzma trade) they're pivoting to PJ Washington and Charlotte. Those teams talked today (Wednesday), they talked tonight (Wednesday evening), I think there are still more conversations to be had tomorrow. I think that's largely based off maybe draft compensation, what that might look like. The Mavericks would certainly like to upgrade.
Washington, a Dallas native, has been linked to Dallas since the summer of 2023 when he was a restricted free agent. It seems the Mavericks retain some interest despite signing Grant Williams in free agency who plays the same position.
With Wojnarowski reporting that "Draft compensation" would be the basis of the deal, that would suggest Josh Green being included would be less likely. A Washington deal with Dallas would likely involve either Richaun Holmes who has a $12.8 player option for the 24-25 season or Grant Williams who signed a 4-year $53 million deal in the off-season. Both contracts are likely viewed as "Negative" assets, meaning additional draft pick compensation would be sent back to Charlotte. The only tradable draft picks for Dallas are a 2027 1st round pick, as well as a Toronto 2025 2nd and Miami 2028 2nd round pick.
