Report: Gorgui Dieng intends to sign with Spurs upon clearing waivers

The Memphis Grizzlies waived veteran big man Gorgui Dieng on Saturday, but he won't be without a team for long.

According to Marc Stein of The New York Times, Dieng intends to sign with the San Antonio Spurs upon clearing waivers. The 31-year-old was also pursued by the New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors, Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets, Stein adds.

Dieng will provide the Spurs with some much-needed depth after San Antonio bought out veteran big man LaMarcus Aldridge a few days ago.

Dieng has been in the NBA for eight seasons and has played for the Minnesota Timberwolves in addition to the Grizzlies. His best season came during the 2015-16 campaign when he averaged 10.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 53.2% from the field.

In 22 games this season, the Louisville product is averaging 7.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 51.9% from the field and 47.9% from deep.
