Report: Kings to interview Mark Jackson, Mike D'Antoni for head coaching position

According to The Athletic , the Sacramento Kings plan to interview Mark Jackson and Mike D'Antoni for their vacant head coaching position.

Jackson is currently an NBA analyst for ESPN, while D'Antoni is an assistant coach with the Brooklyn Nets.

Last week, the Kings decided to part ways with interim head coach Alvin Gentry. Gentry could reportedly move to a front-office role for the Kings.

Jackson played 17 seasons in the NBA, retiring after the 2003-04 season when he transitioned to broadcasting. In 2011, Jackson left his broadcast position after being hired to be the head coach of the Golden State Warriors.

Despite leading the Warriors to back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time since 1992, Jackson was fired after the 2013-14 season. Over three seasons with Golden State, the Warriors were 121-109 in the regular season and 9-10 in the playoffs under Jackson.

D'Antoni, a two-time Coach of the Year, has been a head coach for 16 seasons in the NBA.

D'Antoni's last head coaching job was with the Houston Rockets from 2016 to 2020. The Rockets made the postseason all four seasons under D'Antoni, going 217-101 and 28-23 in the playoffs.

The 70-year-old has been head coach of five different NBA teams, including the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Rockets.
