Another New York Knicks youngster may be following Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett out the door.

Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News reported on Thursday that the Knicks are actively trying to move guard Quentin Grimes ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline. Grimes has reportedly grown frustrated with his role on the Knicks, and the Knicks are said to be aware of this. Bondy adds that there is even speculation that Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau lost faith in Grimes last postseason after Grimes sat out the last two games of their first-round win over the Cleveland Cavaliers with a shoulder injury.

It has been a swift fall from grace in New York for Grimes, 23. He is an ex-Knicks first-round pick whom the team once viewed as an untouchable in trade talks. But Grimes has had a bumpy 2023-24 campaign, averaging a meager 7.1 points per game on a career-low 40.0 percent shooting. He was also demoted to the bench by Thibodeau in early December and has publicly expressed unhappiness with his lack of touches.

Grimes does figure to have more to offer as a 38.6 percent career three-point shooter and a nimble-footed one-on-one defender. But with the likes of OG Anunoby, Donte DiVincenzo and Josh Hart ahead of him on the depth chart, Grimes would be better off getting an opportunity elsewhere ahead of his foray into restricted free agency in 2025. Perhaps the Knicks will dangle Grimes in a trade offer for this recently rumored veteran target.
