Report: Knicks concerned about giving away 'too many future assets' in potential deal for Jazz star Donovan Mitchell

It's been no secret that the New York Knicks are interested in acquiring Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell.

The two sides have reportedly had several discussions about a potential deal throughout the offseason. Talks briefly stalled but picked back up earlier this month.

As the back and forth continues, Marc Berman of the New York Post reports the Knicks' biggest worry is coming out of a deal for Mitchell with nothing to build upon for the future.

"The Knicks' major concern, according to sources, is giving away too many future assets, which could leave them stuck in an area far below championship contender," Berman wrote

The Jazz are asking for six first-round picks as part of a package for Mitchell, per ESPN's Steven A. Smith. Smith also reports that the Knicks are willing to include Julius Randle, but the Jazz prefers RJ Barrett.

While the Knicks have been the favorite to land Mitchell, they aren't the only team interested in his services. Spence Checketts of ESPN700 in Utah says the Jazz have several attractive offers on the table from teams "outside of New York."

Mitchell, a three-time All-Star, will enter his sixth NBA campaign this upcoming season. The 25-year-old averaged 25.9 points, 5.3 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.5 steals last season for the Jazz.
