Report: Lakers PG Russell Westbrook and longtime agent split over 'irreconcilable differences'

Los Angeles Lakers guard Russell Westbrook is in need of new representation.

On Friday night, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Westbrook and longtime agent Thad Foucher had parted ways due to "irreconcilable differences."

According to a statement from Foucher released to ESPN, the split stemmed from Westbrook's insistence on forcing a trade out of Los Angeles. He added that the Lakers would have to attach added value with Westbrook to facilitate a deal, believing that would tarnish Westbrook's value moving forward.

"My belief is that this type of transaction only serves to diminish Russell's value and his best option is to stay with the Lakers, embrace the starting role and support that Darvin Ham publicly offered," Foucher said. "Russell is a first-ballot Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame player and will prove that again before he is retired.

"Unfortunately, irreconcilable differences exist as to his best pathway forward and we are no longer working together. I wish Russell and his family the very best."

The Lakers acquired Westbrook last August from the Washington Wizards in a five-team trade.

In his first season in Los Angeles, Westbrook averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, 7.1 assists, and 1.0 steals in 78 games.

A nine-time All-Star and two-time scoring champion, Westbrook has averaged 22.8 points, 8.4 assists, and 7.4 rebounds, playing over 1,000 career NBA games.
