Report: Pistons to select Oklahoma State star Cade Cunningham with No. 1 pick in draft

Sources tell ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski the Detroit Pistons have decided to select Oklahoma State guard Cade Cunningham with the first overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, which kicks off on Thursday night.

Per the report, Pistons officials met with Cunningham in New York on Wednesday. The decision was finalized Thursday morning.

Cunningham, 19, was Big 12 Player of the Year in his freshman campaign with Oklahoma State, leading the conference in his lone college season with 20.1 points per game. He also gained praise for posting 6.2 rebounds per game and a 43.8 field goal percentage.

Sources told Wojnarowski shooting guard Jalen Green and forward Evan Mobley are likely to be selected second and third, respectively, with Cunningham a solid lock to be selected first overall. The Houston Rockets currently have the second overall pick, and the Cleveland Cavaliers have the third.
