Report: Suns' Devin Booker to sign four-year, $214 million contract extension

Phoenix Suns shooting guard Devin Booker finished fourth in NBA MVP voting last season and parlayed his rise to become one of the league's premier talents into a four-year, $214 million supermax extension.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Booker will sign the deal as early as next week. Charania also said that Booker is set to be the cover athlete on soon-to-be-released video game, "NBA 2K23."

Booker, 25, averaged a career-best 26.8 points during the 2021-22 regular season with 4.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds. He earned a third straight trip to the NBA All-Star Game, and led the way for the Suns to finish with a league best record of 64-18. Phoenix lost in the Western Conference semifinals to the Dallas Mavericks in seven games.

The contract is the third reported agreement from Thursday -- along with massive deals for the Denver Nuggets' Nikola Jokic and Washington Wizards' Bradley Beal -- that will exceed $50 million per year. Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry previously had the only contract in the NBA that reached that number.

Phoenix is considered the betting favorite to acquire Kevin Durant in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. However, Booker cannot be traded to the Nets while Ben Simmons is still on the team's roster due to the Designated Rookie Extension rule.
