Report: Thunder offer Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, No. 6 pick in 2021 draft to Pistons for No. 1 pick

The Oklahoma City Thunder have reportedly attempted to move up significantly in the 2021 NBA Draft.

According to Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer, the Thunder offered Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the No. 6 pick in this year's draft to the Detroit Pistons for the first-overall selection in hopes of selecting Cade Cunningham.

The offer represents a change in thinking on Gilgeous-Alexander, who was previously unavailable for trade. Gilgeous-Alexander is eligible for an extension this summer worth up to $168 million over five years.

The 23-year-old is considered one of the best young players in the NBA. He had a career year in his second season with the Thunder, averaging a career-high 23.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game while shooting 50.8% from the field and 41.8% from deep.

Detroit has reportedly been open to moving the first-overall pick, telling teams it wants a 2021 first-round pick in this year's draft, future draft assets and an established young star.

The Pistons also reportedly aren't set on taking Cunningham, who is widely considered the best player available. They're also considering Jalen Green and Evan Mobley.

Oklahoma City has the draft capital to potentially create an enticing trade package to move up. The Thunder have as many as 18 future first-round picks over the next seven years, and packaging some of those could allow them to move up at least into the top five.
