The Timberwolves could use another shooter on the roster and there’s a certain player on the San Antonio Spurs who fits the bill.

Doug McDermott is currently sixth in the NBA in 3-point percentage, hitting at a 45% clip, and is allegedly expected to be either a trade or buyout candidate. And with the trade deadline coming up on Feb. 8, KSTP’s Darren Wolfson said on the Skor North podcast on Tuesday that he “was told” that the Timberwolves "really like" McDermott.

“We saw (McDermott) light up the Wolves, to some extent, on Saturday. … That’s what the Wolves are looking for is 3-point shooting as much as anything,” Wolfson said.

In order for the Timberwolves to land McDermott, it’d almost certainly have to be a buyout situation. McDermott, 32, who averages 6.1 points and 1.3 assists per game, is making nearly $14 million this season, likely too much for the Wolves to absorb in any type of deal they’d be willing to make.

Wolfson also mentioned the Charlotte Hornets’ Gordon Hayward as a player Minnesota would be interested in should he hit the buyout market; however, Marc Stein reported that Hayward is unlikely to seek a buyout.
