Report: Timberwolves to hire Raptors assistant Chris Finch as next head coach

The Minnesota Timberwolves, who are last in the Western Conference, fired head coach Ryan Saunders on Sunday after a 103-99 loss to the New York Knicks. However, it appears they'll have a new bench boss very soon.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Timberwolves are finalizing a multi-year deal to make Toronto Raptors assistant Chris Finch their next head coach.

Finch is expected to begin the job on Tuesday with associate head coach David Vanterpool and assistants Bryan Gates and Pablo Prigioni, Wojnarowski adds.

The 51-year-old has been an assistant with the Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets, New Orleans Pelicans and the Raptors. He won a G League title with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in 2010.

Saunders went 43-94 as head coach of the Timberwolves in two-plus seasons. With the hiring of Finch, Minnesota hopes he'll be able to coach up Karl-Anthony Towns, Malik Beasley, Anthony Edwards and D'Angelo Russell.
