You can put Monté Morris on the list of the players the Timberwolves could try to acquire before the Feb. 8 NBA trade deadline.

According to Minnesota sports insider Darren Wolfson, Morris is a player the Timberwolves "will try" to go after just as they reportedly did last summer.

"Monte Morris, Detroit Pistons guard who Tim Connelly had in Denver. The Wolves tried to acquire him last summer, they will try again this time around," Wolfson said Thursday on SKOR North's Mackey & Judd Show. "Another name to keep an eye on. I'm not saying it's him or bust."

Morris made his season debut Wednesday night after missing 43 games with a pair of injuries. He scored seven points with three rebounds and three assists in 11 minutes off the bench, and he hit 3-of-4 shots including his lone 3-pointer.

Last season, Morris played 62 games (61 starts) for the Wizards and averaged 10.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.3 assists while shooting 48.0% overall and 38.2% from 3-point range.

According to James L. Edwards III, who covers the Pistons for The Athletic, has drawn interested from around the league.

Per league sources, rival teams like and have expressed interest in Morris but, obviously, want to see the veteran guard play leading up to the deadline. Detroit, too, wants to see what Morris provides after returning from injury. I’ve gotten the sense that it is not a given the Pistons will move Morris, who addresses several issues in Detroit’s backcourt when healthy.

Morris fits the bill as a backup point guard who could provide both leadership and scoring for a Minnesota team that has struggled to take care of the basketball and ranks 19th in offensive rating.

Morris, 28, is making $9.8 million this season and is set to become a free agent this summer, according to Spotrac.

Other names that Minnesota has been connected to are Malcolm Brogdon, Bogdon Bogdanovic, Royce O'Neale, Tyus Jones and Davion Mitchell.

"I will be very, very surprised if they don't do something," Wolfson added.
