Reports: Knicks to interview Jason Kidd, Mike Brown for head coach job

The New York Knicks are going to their past as they look for their next head coach.

On Monday, Marc Stein of the New York Times reported that the Knicks have received permission to interview former New York player and current Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Jason Kidd. Kidd featured for the Knicks during the 2012-13 season, and he spent several years as coach of the Milwaukee Bucks until he was relieved of those duties in January 2018.

Newsday's Steve Popper added that the Knicks hope Kidd could lure Milwaukee superstar and reigning Most Valuable Player Giannis Antetokounmpo to play home games at Madison Square Garden. Popper also tweeted he believes the "Greek Freak" will remain with the Bucks, and that former Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau is the favorite to land the Knicks job:

Kidd coached Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee.

Earlier in the day, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported the Knicks will also interview current associate head coach Mike Brown. Brown previously spent time as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Lakers.

Mike Miller took over for David Fizdale and became New York interim head coach in December. The Knicks sat at 21-45 when the league suspended play due to the coronavirus pandemic on March 11.

Stein believes the Knicks won't hire a coach before July.
