Rockets' Sterling Brown a victim of assault Sunday night

Per an ESPN piece, the Houston Rockets have confirmed that small forward Sterling Brown suffered facial lacerations during an assault that occurred Sunday night.

"Last night, Sterling Brown was the victim of an assault," the Rockets said Monday in a statement shared by TMZ Sports. "He has no prior knowledge of or interaction with the assailants. He suffered facial lacerations but will make a full recovery. Sterling is not playing tonight because of his prior knee injury."

"I have spoken to him, and he's feeling better," Houston coach Stephen Silas told reporters before Monday's game at the Miami Heat. "Thankfully, he's going to be OK."

The Athletic's Shams Charania reports that Brown "was jumped outside of a club in Miami late Sunday night, hit in the head with a bottle and needed medical attention into Monday." Charania added that the 26-year-old was involved in a "serious altercation."

Brown spent his first three NBA seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks and signed a one-year deal with the Rockets in free agency in November. Across his first 51 games with Houston, he has averaged 8.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.

The Rockets defeated the Orlando Magic 114-110 on Sunday night.
