The Los Angeles Clippers were supposed to be one of the contenders for the NBA title this year. At least that was what the various roster moves were supposed to bring. Instead, they are now packing their bags to go on vacation as their playoffs have come to an early end.

Even though all the superstars are being questioned for their part in this disappointment, the most criticism has gone in the direction of Russell Westbrook. The former triple-double champion has now come out with a statement regarding the noise coming in his direction.

I am often the topic of conversation by so many ‘sources’ and sports media outlets. Understand that anything you read about what I’ve said or haven’t said has likely been fabricated. It’s a difficult time for a lot of people due to certain expectations that have been placed on them. I for one enjoyed my year. I hope to come back better stronger and remain eager to take on any role that continues to put us in the best position to win next season!

Russell Westbrook posted on his Instagram story

The former league MVP basically diverted any rumors that might be floating around. He is looking forward to next season so that he can challenge for a title.

The rumors Russell Westbrook is referring to are about his team and what they might do going ahead. The early playoff exit has led to several analysts calling for owner Steve Ballmer to do a complete rebuild. This means that analysts want the Clippers to get rid of all the aging superstars.

With the Clippers scheduled to move into a new arena, some feel they need the stars to market their brand as well. Something this group has been unable to do despite all the millions of dollars Ballmer has spent.

Russell Westbrook could be on the move

Russell Westbrook has a player option expiring on the 29th of June this year. If he exercises that, he will continue playing for the Los Angeles Clippers. However, if Steve Ballmer goes for a complete rebuild, Westbrook might ask his agent to call up prospective teams. He wants to win an NBA title. For that, as he mentioned above, he will eagerly take on any role.

A huge positive for Westbrook is his ridiculously low salary. At that price, considering his experience, championship-winning teams might be willing to take a chance. His energy and competitiveness are second to none. Those intangible skills could come in handy when the playoffs come around.

But teams and fans will look at the horrendous outing he had this series. But to his benefit, his entire team was playing badly. The basketball world will be watching what happens next for one of the hardest-working players in the league.
