2017 MVP Russell Westbrook had spent the last year and a half playing for the Los Angeles Lakers before getting traded to the Utah Jazz last month.

Following the trade, he was bought out of his contract and signed with the Los Angeles Clippers for the remainder of the 2022-23 season.

Westbrook is one of the greatest point guards in the history of the NBA, and he is closing in on an extraordinary accomplishment.

The former UCLA star is currently tenth on the all-time assists list (9,046), and he is only 16 assists away from passing Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas (9,061).

Right now, the 34-year-old is averaging 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 7.6 assists and 1.1 steals per contest in 57 games.

Therefore, it's very likely that the nine-time NBA All-Star will pass Thomas in the next three games.

Before the Clippers and Lakers, Westbrook also had stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards.

During the 2021 season, he passed Oscar Robertson to become the all-time leader in triple-doubles, and he currently has 198.

His career averages are 22.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 8.4 assists and 1.6 steals per contest in 1,078 regular season games.

There is no question that Westbrook will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

As for the Clippers, they are 33-33 in 66 games, which has them as the eighth seed in the Western Conference.

They are in the middle of a five-game losing streak and will play their next game on Sunday night when they host the Memphis Grizzlies
