Outside shooting is a crucial part that will help any team succeed in the modern NBA era. But for Keldon Johnson, the San Antonio Spurs need to elevate that part of their game in order to make it big in the league, sooner than later.

As it stands, the Boston Celtics are on top of the league when it comes to three-pointers made. Over the course of this season, Beantown has drained 1,184 long-range bombs from deep. In this regard, All-Star forward Jayson Tatum has led his team by throwing 8.4 three-point attempts and connecting 38 percent of them.

When it comes to accuracy, the Oklahoma City Thunder are leading the league by connecting 39.2 percent of their three-pointers. Almost every member of the team’s roster is hitting 36 percent from deep. Although none of these guys are considered volume shooters, their overall efficiency has helped the team rise to the top of the Western Conference.

Getting those shots from outside the arc has allowed these two teams to flourish in the NBA this season. The Spurs, on the other hand, are 15th in the league when it comes to three-pointers made, and dead-last regarding efficiency.

San Antonio Spurs Star Keldon Johnson Highlights Important of Outside Shooting

While San Antonio is a young team , they may need to grow up fast and make those shots if they want to succeed, especially now that Victor Wembanyama is progressing at an All-Star level. Rising Spurs star Keldon Johnson highlights this need in a tweet shared by Paul Garcia on X:

As it stands, only Devin Vassell is making more than five three-pointers and connecting more than 35 percent of them. Wembanyama isn’t that efficient this season as the Spurs star is only hitting 32 percent of his 5.2 attempts from deep.

Whether San Antonio fixes this issue via the draft of free agency will be known in the coming months. What’s certain, though, is that the Spurs must do everything they can to improve and make the most of Wembanyama in the lineup.
